IMC Webinar: The Social Issue Advisory Council - Defining Purpose and Practice

IMC Webinar: The Social Issue Advisory Council - Defining Purpose and Practice

Tuesday, 21 September, noon - 1:00 pm ET

Companies are now expected to take action on societal issues that were formerly outside the boundary of expected corporate response.  When a social issue—say, racial equity, climate change or police reform—is not directly owned by a business leader or it crosses multiple functions, forming a Social Issue Council can create new sources of insight for executive decision-making.

Issue Management Council members Lisa Carr, AVP of Reputation, Issues and Crisis Communications, USAA and Jarod Davis, U.S. Policy/Issues Director, Dow, will describe recent and evolving actions their companies are taking to create internal Social Issue Advisory groups.  They will share their recent learnings about the Planning, People, Policies and Processes that facilitate some of the following objectives:

  • Understand leadership expectations and gaps in current processes
  • Define the mandate of the group and ensure it is authentic to your company, brand and to the audiences it engages
  • Distinguish and dovetail Social Issues with existing groups within the company, for example Employee Resource Groups or Diversity and Inclusion
  • Identify the most critical participants to ensure diverse perspectives are considered
  • Decide on recommended actions and audiences
  • Define the metrics that will show your Advisory Council is effective and worth the investment for both the company and the participants

We look forward to a robust discussion around this emerging discipline.
