Companies are now expected to take action on societal issues that were formerly outside the boundary of expected corporate response. When a social issue—say, racial equity, climate change or police reform—is not directly owned by a business leader or it crosses multiple functions, forming a Social Issue Council can create new sources of insight for executive decision-making.
